There’s a new coffee shop downtown, and better still, it’s open on Mondays. But Wrinkle & Boon aims to be more than another spot to grab a cappuccino or latte – more than a gift shop, too, although you will find all sorts of knickknacks for sale inside.
Most of all, Wrinkle & Boon is trying to become a venue where people gather in Lebanon.
“We love the city, so we really want to focus on not necessarily just the coffee or just the gifts, but community,” said Pam Shirk hours before Wrinkle & Boon held its grand opening on Dec. 7. “We want a spot for people to come. We want a place where we would like to have a lot of events.
“We want to be that place that’s a link in the city.”
Pam opened Wrinkle & Boon with her daughter, Cassidy, 19 years old and a recent graduate of Northern Lebanon High School.
Cassidy manages Wrinkle & Boon and can make most any coffee beverage you would want. “She’s teaching me,” said Pam, who also owns Edible Arrangements in Lebanon with her husband, Jeff. “I have the business part of it, and she’s really a barista.”
Both mother and daughter admit they are learning from one another, the family dynamic being as one would expect at times.
“She called our espresso machine a cappuccino maker for months, and I’m like, ‘Mom, it’s an espresso machine,’” said Cassidy. “And then she started calling it a latte maker. No! No. It’s an espresso machine. Different. Latte maker is not a thing.” Mom just laughs.
Cassidy hasn’t ruled out college but is more excited about the prospect of Wrinkle & Boon for right now.

Gifts for sale

Not only does Wrinkle & Boon sell all sorts of cute trinkets, but Cassidy dabbles in crafting herself.
“I have a little bit of jewelry, some tapestry kind of things, some signs,” said Cassidy. “I love to sew, so when we open up the back of the store, I’ll definitely have a stand back there.”
Candles, mugs, decorative pieces and more are currently on display near the entrance. Eventually, additional shopping will be housed in a large back area where vendors can rent space and let Wrinkle & Boon peddle their wares.
Some of the items for sale are crafted in Lebanon County. Everything is “ethically-made” by small businesses – no junk from China.

It cannot be stressed enough that Wrinkle & Boon is open Mondays, when historically many area businesses are closed. That is potentially huge news for coffee drinkers who might otherwise be forced to grab a cup at a convenience store.
“Monday morning is when you need coffee the most,” said Cassidy. “Especially if you make it at home every other day of the week, Monday is the day where you’ll be like, ‘I’m going to treat myself today. It’s a Monday.’”
Cups comes in 12- and 16-ounce sizes, and all of Wrinkle & Boon’s brews are from Kitty Town Coffee, an up-and-coming roaster based in Lebanon which gets its beans directly from farmers.
Fresh pastries are also available in the mornings.

Much more to come

Wrinkle & Boon is only getting started and has ideas to expand its offerings in the weeks and months ahead.
Expect tea to be added to the menu very soon. “That is something I’m working on,” said Cassidy. “I want to make sure I really like the product we’re getting – not just getting anything – but I would really like to have teas in the next couple weeks.”
On the food side, there are plans to prepare a soup, salad and sandwich of the season. And just in time for summer, Wrinkle & Boon will be investing in an ice maker for cold brews, one of the few coffee beverages not on the menu.
Once the back of the store is finished, Wrinkle & Boon will also have space to host events such as monthly yoga, sip-and-paint parties, conference meetings and showers.
Hours and location
Located at 12 N. Ninth St., Lebanon, Wrinkle & Boon’s normal operating hours are 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdays to start. Extended hours will be used for special events, including Sundays.
