Doug Greenhut, president of Delray Beach, Florida-based The Book Company, recognized the obvious impact the company’s product line has on trees and the environment. That’s why he decided to launch “We Plant Trees,” The Book Company’s first and ongoing corporate giving program that will donate a portion of proceeds each year to help plant trees across America through reforestation programs led by American Forests.
According to Greenhut, the idea to start a corporate giving program originated from Missy Kilpatrick, the company’s vice president of business development. Not only does Missy head up the company’s fast-growing journal line, but she also lives in California and was feeling first-hand the impact widespread wildfires were having on the environment.
After much investigation, Greenhut found American Forests and was inspired by its support of more than 135 forest restoration projects in the state, which has led to the planting of over 7.5 million trees in California alone.
“In my eyes, it’s almost impossible to weigh the balance between the majesty of trees and their importance to the ecosystem against the immeasurable educational and inspirational value we gain from reading books and writing in journals,” said Greenhut. “I’m extremely gratified that the We Plant Trees program allows us to pay homage to the products we sell and make an ongoing investment to improve our planet.”
American Forests has been restoring forests for more than 140 years. Since 1990 alone, it has planted nearly 60 million trees in forest restoration projects in all 50 states. As the oldest national conservation organization, it has also worked in dozens of cities across America, expanding tree canopy and improving the quality of life for residents.
In addition to allocating a portion of proceeds each year, The Book Company is also encouraging the support of its industry partners to donate to American Forests through a link on their website. More details about the We Plant Trees program can be found here.
